Other than a few, very low-power experimenter’s SDR boards, the IC-905 is the first amateur radio transceiver to cover the 2m, 70cm, 1.2 GHz, 2.4 GHz, 5.6 GHz amateur radio bands, and optionally the 10 GHz band. Previously you had to cobble together transverters for each band. The remote-mounted transmitter block and optional 10 GHz transverter can be placed close to your antennas, minimizing feeder cable loss which is extremely important at microwave frequencies. The built-in GPS receiver ensures excellent frequency stability. It is also the first commercially made radio to include analog TV and D-Star on the microwave bands.

The radio is technically amazing, but how does it stack up in the real world? This book looks at how you can use the IC-905, what it does well, and what you need to add for operating through satellites, meteor scatter, aircraft reflections, EME, or DX.
