PRS Repeater Projects
Project 5 – Mt Climie UHF PRS Repeater
The Project: a new initiative to install a UHF Personal Radio Service (PRS) repeater at Mt Climie summit, as a community-owned and community-operated asset. The Upper Hutt Ham Club is leading this initiative, supported by local PRS radio users and community resilience advocates, including members of the Wellington region RFRN community.
The Vision: Mount Climie is a significant hub for amateur radio (ham) operations in the Wellington region. The summit hosts a variety of key telecommunications infrastructure and is a critical node for local emergency communications and community networking. PRS is a free-to-air citizen’s band (477MHz) that does not require a licence to use. Radios are small, portable, affordable and very easy to use, for everyone.

Other PRS Repeater Projects
As the momentum increases with the Mt Climie UHF PRS Repeater Project, we are keen to work with more community groups to install more UHF PRS Repeaters around New Zealand. We're keen to hear from anyone who has, or could suggest a site, or could share this post with someone or other groups who could help find a location. You're welcome to message me below if you have a location or would like to join the project.
