The TECHOMAN Windcamp Portable HF amateur radio dipole covers the popular 5/7/10/14/18/21/24/28 and 50Mhz bands.
Rated at 100 Watts PEP power handling capability and supplied in a convenient canvas carry bag. The antenna comprises a balun and 2 bobbins containing the wire to cover the specified bands. Simply unwind the wire on either side of the balun until the appropriate band marker is found and then secure the bobbin (including the length of remaining wire) to a fixing point using the supplied nylon cord or a longer string.
The shortest length will correspond to the 50Mhz (6 metre) band and the longest length will correspond to the 5Mhz (the 60 metre band). As with all dipole antennas the maximum radiation will occur at 90 degrees from the direction the antenna runs. So if the antenna runs North-South, the maximum radiation occurs in the East-West direction. Best results will be obtained when the antenna is at least 4 metres above ground. Ideally the antenna should be at least a quarter wavelength above the ground for best results, so the height will correspond to the operating band but generally higher is better.
The antenna can also be mounted in the inverted V configuration, where the balun is placed as high as possible on a pole and the ends of the antenna slope towards the ground. This configuration works as long as the ends of the antenna are at least 1 metre above ground and the angle between the radiating elements is around 120 degrees.
